Community Event: World Dance Night
A full house enjoyed a rich buffet of world dance and music Friday, March 16, 2007 at the Old Town School of Folk Music. This first of its kind event produced by Melissa Mallinson highlighted the ever popular tap styling's of Reggio "The Hoofer" McLaughlin, the passionate Flamenco rhythms of Michelle Nascimento "La Coaba", and a stirring Traditional Irish dance by Sinead Kimbrell. Kupa'a Pacific Island Resources chanter and choreographer Carole Lanialoha Lee-Sumberg brought the evening to a climax with Kumu Hula as she implored the audience at the beginning of the dance to remember those loved ones that have passed on before us. Dancers from the Kupa'a School of the Pacific and musical accompaniment by Carole (vocalist, Tahitian drummer, Ukulele), Ted Parrish (acoustic guitar), Czerina Salud (vocalist), Michael Taylor (djembe), and Lenny Marsh (breteke) led us through this enlightening spiritual journey.
