A New Chapter
by Paula Grahmann, CPT

February 2008
My life has recently changed. I’ve traded in my green apron (from my old Starbucks job) for a red shirt, and customer service at Chicago Dance Supply (CDS) for mostly just paperwork. But this was a great change, because it allowed me to start a new adventure: Personal Training at Bally Total Fitness.
I had a wonderful experience with a trainer of my own this summer. I was trying to get down to “fighting weight” for upcoming dance auditions, and hired this super great trainer at my gym. It was truly a life-changing experience. I learned how to eat right, exercise right. I learned the value of running (which I have always hated), the importance of cross training, and how wimpy I really was. Now, I teach these things to others: How to avoid the risk of serious disease. How to look hot and feel great. How to work harder than they ever worked before. Plus, how to have fun at the gym.
Working out can seem like such a chore, until you have a fitness professional yelling over your shoulder, pushing you, challenging you, never letting you do less than 110%. Then it becomes less work and more excitement, a new game, an exhilarating bout of physical exertion.
My new red shirt doesn’t make me perfect, doesn’t make me buff or love doing bicep curls. But it makes me feel good, to help push people to a new chapter in their lives. One where health is fun and fitness is exciting. Drop by the gym for a taste for yourself!
