Community Events: The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago--Siobhan Davies Dance Company
One of Britain’s leading independent dance companies, Siobhan Davies Dance Company, performs the American premiere of In Plain Clothes, a stripped-down, intimate evening-length piece using only the bare essentials to celebrate the human form, with input from four advisors: linguist Susan Hitch, cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Francis Wells, landscape designer Dan Pearson and architect Sarah Wigglesworth. Each of these contemporaries, seeing movement from a different perspective, influenced the genesis and growth of In Plain Clothes by bringing observation, energy and humor to the rehearsal process.

Deborah Saxon, senior dancer with Siobhan Davies Dance Company, will lead a creative process class at the intermediate level. The class will culminate in a discussion with Saxon and Artistic Director Siobhan Davies. Dancers will learn how to use their own interests and experiences as routes into creating material, along with frameworks used by Davies during the making of her pieces.
DanceMasters is a series of community master classes presented by The Dance Center’s Community Outreach and Education office in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with Hedwig Dances; Links Hall; and Lou Conte Dance Studio, studio of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Hubbard Street 2.
